We recently joined Union Township to mark a major energy milestone with the grand opening of the township's largest community solar project. The 3.12MW rooftop community solar project at 750 Union Ave. will save over 600 households an average of $900/year on their energy bills—totaling close to $20 million in savings over the life of the project.
“This project represents exactly the kind of progress New Jersey needs to meet its clean energy and energy efficiency goals, said Christine Guhl-Sadovy, President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. “Community Solar initiatives, like this one in Union Township, expand access to affordable and renewable energy, which delivers real savings to residents across our state.”
Thank you to township officials Deputy Mayor Joe Florio, Senator Joe Cryan’s Chief of Staff Petra Gaskins, NJ League of Conservation Voters President Ed Potosnak, Dimension Energy, Black Bear Energy, and others who helped make this project a reality.
This project is part of Dimension’s portfolio of 29 community solar projects on warehouse rooftops across the state. Together, these projects will provide affordable energy for 10,000 New Jersey households by the end of this year.
Joining us for the event was resident and business owner Arthur C. Pinckney, Sr.
Mr. Pinckney, owner of NJ Arts World, said, “When Union Township puts their name behind something, there really isn’t much of a question, you are a lot more comfortable subscribing to programs like community solar, so that’s what we did." He continued, “I’m looking forward to the savings. I thought about solar a long time ago, but Union Township has done the work for me. I’m very excited…and always excited about saving money.”
Recently, under Governor Murphy’s leadership, the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has been directed to authorize 3,000 megawatts of new community solar capacity by October, greatly expanding access to affordable energy across the state.
