About the Program
Resource adequacy is the process of ensuring that there is a sufficient supply of electricity generating capacity, in the right areas of the electric grid, to reliably meet customer’s need for electricity, plus an adequate buffer or “reserve margin,” to accommodate periods of high demand or stress on the electric grid, or allow the grid to continue functioning even when isolated generation or transmission resources fail.
NJBPU's Resource Adequacy Program is working to ensure that New Jersey achieves its reliability and clean energy objectives while keeping costs to consumers as low as possible. To meet these objectives in the face of growing energy demand across the PJM footprint, the NJBPU is identifying mature and emerging clean generation resources that can be scaled and deployed in New Jersey; implementing measures to improve grid flexibility; and improving customer engagement through clear communication and programs that empower them to actively participate in energy management. Together, these initiatives are designed to secure resource adequacy at the lowest possible price for New Jersey ratepayers.
